Undefeated ODSS Junior girls’ capture CWOSSA title

The Orangeville District Secondary School (ODSS) Bears junior girls’ basketball team are champions after winning the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) title in Guelph on Saturday, Nov. 19.

The Bears have had an outstanding season going undefeated for the year and winning 16 straight games in a stellar effort that saw the ODSS team dominate junior girls’ basketball in the District.

In the regular District 10 season, the Bears won all ten of their games. They scored 536 points over those ten games while allowing 302 points against.

They averaged 54 points per game.

After ending the regular season in first place, the Bears were given a bye in the first round of the District playoffs.

In their semi-final match, they were up against Centre Wellington District High School, and won that game 48-31, to earn the right to advance to the final.

In the District 10 final, they defeated Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School from Guelph, with a 46-28 win in the championship game held at the University of Guelph on Saturday, November 12.

The win earned them the right to compete at the regional level against the top District 10 AAA championship teams at CWOSSA.

CWOSSA competition took place in Guelph on Friday, November 18, and Saturday, November 19.

On the opening day of competition, the Bears won their first game 60-35. They followed up with a second win over St. John’s in a 50-28 game.

In the CWOSSA playoffs, the Bears won 62-51 over St. Benedict in the semi-final to earn the right to advance to the championship game.

The Bears claimed the CWOSSA title with a 57-45 win over St. John’s in the final game.
