Terry Fox Run completes 43rd event with huge success

The annual Terry Fox run was held on Sunday, September 17, at locations across the country and around the world to raise money for cancer research.

Local, the Orangeville run too place at the Island Lake Conservation area with an early morning start and the run taking place in the scenic park. With a 5 km and 10 km routes, participants could choose which distance they wanted to complete. No one actually has to run, they can walk the entire distance.

The important thing is to take part and help raise funds for this important and worthy cause.

As of Monday morning, the Orangeville walk had raised $21,129.29, making it the third highest amount the local walk has raised, and they are counting on more donations to still come in.

There was around 96 participants in this year’s event.

Over the years, the Orangeville run has raised a total of $513,524.92.

“It was inspiring to see over 80,000 Canadians come together in their communities to make our world a better place,” said Mark Whitcombe, on behalf of Orangeville Terry Fox event organizers. “Whether you walked, biked, ran, wheeled, or took art your own way, you honoured Terry’s legacy by contributing to innovative cancer research in Canada. In keeping with our theme for 2023, out ‘#DearTerry’ message would say, simply, “Dear Terry, thank you for inspiring amazing Terry Foxers across Canada who help us get one step closer to realizing your dream of a world without cancer.”

Around the world, the Terry Fox run has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research.
