Can the Orangeville District Secondary School Bears hockey team go the distance?

The Bears seem unstoppable after an outstanding season that has earned them the Division 4 / 10 title, and their latest achievement – winning the Central Western Ontario Secondary School Association (CWOSSA) regional championship.

The squad won the District title on February 25, with a win over Erin District High School at Tony Rose arena in Orangeville.

That earned them a trip to CWOSSA on March, 3 / 4 at the University of Guelph.

The Bears came out on top in the round-robin portion of the tournament with a 6-1 win over NorthPark from Brantford, then followed up with a 4-0 win over Sir John A. MacDonald from Kitchener in game two.

Advancing to the semi-final, the Bears trounced Brantford Centennial 6-1 to earn their spot in the championship game.

They left the ice with 7-1 win over Resurrection Catholic Secondary School from Kitchener in the final to win the CWOSSA title.

Doing a little math, the Bears scored 23 goals over four games and allowed only three goals against.

That’s a pretty staggering number considering all the teams in the tournament were division champions.

Coached by Justin Davis, the Bears have only one loss for the entire year.

It’s almost impossible to predict what might happen at OFSSA considering all the teams there will be the top of the heap squads from their own part of the province, but the Bears have a talented, well coached team who have a good shot of going all the way.

The OFSAA championships will take place March 17-21 in Oakville, Ontario with teams from around Ontario competing.
