Well, the PanAm folk have now left town. It was a pleasant but expensive day in the sun.
Would have been nice if they’d left behind even one of those lovely white tents made in Lyons, France, but they all went back to T.O. That clears the fall agenda for a couple of things.
First, a kangaroo-court hearing to declare that dumping Toronto construction fill in Mono is a “normal farm practice” and to be encouraged. OMG!
It also clears the agenda for the provincial approval, over the protestations of Mono Council, for a 100-acre solar “farm.”
Perhaps it’s just another normal farm practice.
The proponent’s consultants got the name of the township wrong on their displays, but at least two of the five consultants had actually been to the site in Mono before the public meeting – that was nice.
Asked about how they were going to level the hills of Mono to install the gear, they said it would be no problem.
Asked how the power would get to the grid, they couldn’t tell.
Asked about the planned electrical out- put as a percentage of installed capacity, they couldn’t answer. Asked if the solar pan- els would at least be made in Canada, they couldn’t commit.
When asked if they had brought enough Tim Horton’s doughnuts for the public meeting, they were pretty confident they had. “It’s early days,” they kept saying, “It’s early days.”
Oh, the things we do for Queen’s Park. Aren’t we accommodating?
