We are failing our children in both subjects. Why?
Content and methodology is up for debate as to best practices, to be sure.
But when high-touted articles and research state that
“PARENT ENGAGEMENT “ is the critical factor in most children’s successes, consider this:
ITS TIME TO SEND HOME THE FULL CURRICULUM TO ALL PARENTS at the beginning of the school year.
PARENTS ARE TEACHING THEIR CHILDREN BLIND. Hours spent trying to figure out “how to figure out” what to tell – and how to support – their kid’s learning. And we know how that often ends up for all the kids who have so much potential.
Certainly, exposing the curriculum would entice parents to increase criticism of the content…but that’s what the school boards will just have to manage.
We can’t allow spite to get in the way of access and opportunity, to make the whole learning experience better for the kids — and less stressful for the parents. And through it all…the adults just might learn a thing or two.

Publication Bans
As a typical medium, you argued in your editorial of 26 February, in effect, for prior notice of publication bans. Such notice would, surely, merely attract the attention of the news hounds. Sooner or later, someone with knowledge of a case would leak it to the press.
I have asked over some years that the names of accused persons be withheld from the public unless there is a compelling reason to do otherwise – ie, protect the public from continued perpetration of a crime.
That condition might apply if, for example, a charged person were released on bail and might threaten the lives of witnesses or the public.
There is no other reason to inform the public (or media) of a charged person’s name until and if that person is found guilty.
There have been too many instances of innocent persons charged by the court of public opinion, and of potential jury members being tainted by media bias.
Surely we the people – and the press – can restrain our urge to be the first to know, when a trial may take days or years to complete while the innocent is shunned forever by the initial public reaction to an imputed crime.

No name change
Here we go again! Mulmur Council is requesting public input for a Township name change yet there is nothing posted on the community sign board in Mansfield. A NAME CHANGE?
How many thousands of dollars will that cost the ratepayers? Incorporation papers, signs, letterheads, business cards, the cost is too high for no good reason. What does council think that it might permit them to approve their own plans of subdivision? How many subdivisions are we planning in Mulmur?
NO, we do not need a name change, we need an administration change and to get our CAO off the sunshine list. This municipality does not warrant paying out wages over 102,000 dollars annually.
Does Mulmur Council have nothing better to discuss? We do not have sufficient money in our reserves yet they want to spend more on frivolous facades.
The acclaimed deputy mayor promised during her first term of council that she would balance the books at the Honeywood arena (NDRCC) and now they are “running $60,000 in the red” each year, according to the acclaimed mayor of Mulmur Paul Mills. When will Mulmur Council stop wasting taxpayers’ dollars?
