The Avalon Care Centre hosted its second annual Senior Care Giver Expo on Wednesday, March 7, with an aim to provide information about the availability of services for senior citizens in the Orangeville area.
There was a huge variety of topics covered with many local businesses and servicing taking part.
With an aging population and more seniors than ever before the Expo offered solutions for anyone who needs assistance in a variety of ways from safety in the home to transportation around town.
“We’re showcasing all the different services available to seniors from the community,” explained Avalon Care Centre resident and family services coordinator, Dawn Rollins. “We’ve invited the community to come here and meet all the services available to seniors and care givers. There are agencies, services, and programs here. It gives people a chance to come out and see the services in the community. There’s a lot of new people in the community. A lot of people who have live here a long time may know about these services but a lot of new people won’t. You can meet the different companies, services, and programs that help support seniors in the community. For example if someone needs PSW (personal support worker) there’s a PSW company here.”
The Expo provided a chance to see a wide variety of available services from mobility help and transportation to health related services that provide necessities such as oral health care and hearing aids.
There were even services offered for things you may not think of right away such as a service that provides help in downsizing home when someone decides its time to move to a smaller dwelling.
The event featured several speakers who provided information on a variety of topics regarding senior living.
