“Every year brings its challenges and its successes. For some the challenges can be immense. Those in war torn parts of the world, can only dream of the safety and security enjoyed by us in Canada. Whatever the year has brought to you, good or bad, we can all take some measure of comfort in knowing we are living in the best country on the planet. We should remain thankful to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve and protect our way of life in this great nation.
Christmas has always been a favourite time of year for me. Beyond the religious aspects, the lights, decorations and festive atmosphere, the time spent with our friends and families and even the fruitcake, I love it all.
But it can be stressful. Buying gifts, unrealistic expectations, and all the work that goes with it can and does weigh some people down. Memories of lost family and friends, regrets and old family ‘frictions’ can cloud an otherwise joyous time of the year. I believe that like all aspects of life, one needs to seize that which is good and discard the bad whenever possible.
For most, it is a wondrous time of year. My kids are excited and unusually willing to do household chores. Even our dog ‘Tipper’ seems happier to see everyone around home, a busy home that typically has everyone going in different directions.
I hope that you are able to enjoy the holidays, and that it brings cheer to you and yours in one way or another. It is in that light that I and my family wish to extend to all a very merry Christmas and a most prosperous New Year.”
