The jolly, big man in red is arriving in Orangeville this Saturday, and with him, he brings good will to all, and some road closures.
The Orangeville Police Service is warning residents that on November 15 various roads will be closed due the annual Santa Claus parade, from approximately 4 to 7 p.m.
The parade route will be the same as it has been for the last several years, departing from Hansen Boulevard, which will be closed as early as 2 p.m. between Amelia Street and First Street, for the staging and set-up of parade participants. Hansen will reopen at about 6 p.m.
The parade will then be travelling south on First Street to Broadway, East on Broadway to Fourth Street and north on Fourth Street to Rotary Park.
First Street will be closed to traffic between Broadway and the Orangeville Mall at 4 p.m., along with Broadway from John Street to Sherbourne and Townline. Traffic on the streets adjoining the parade’s route will also be restricted during the parade, beginning at 4 p.m.
“Although we strive to limit the inconveniences to those travelling through our community Saturday afternoon,” said Deputy Chief Wayne Kalinski, “it is necessary to close roads to ensure a safe parade. We have listened to the feedback from residents from last year’s parade and are extending the First Street road closure to allow access to the Orangeville Mall.”
Coupled with the road closures, parking prohibitions will also be in place during the length of the parade, along its route. Parking along Hansen Boulevard, from Amelia Street to First Street, including the Dog Park parking lot will be restricted between 2 and 8 p.m., and between 4 and 7 p.m. on both sides of First Street between Zina Street and Broadway, as well as from 4 to 8 p.m. on both sides of Broadway from First Street to Third Street, both sides of Fourth Street from Broadway to Second Avenue, Second Avenue from Fourth Street to Sherbourne, and Sherbourne from Broadway to Second Avenue.
As well, there will be no parking at the Rotary and Idylwyld parks from 2 to 8 p.m.
