It promises to be a week jam-packed with fun-filled activities at Downey’s Farm Market in Caledon as the local ranch prepares to host its 16th annual Easterfest.

With five days full of family activities and entertainment kicking off this coming weekend, event organizers are calling on the public to help make this year’s festivities the best in its 16-year history.

“This is a great family event with a rich history in the local community,” said Darlene Downey, youngest daughter of the farm’s current owners John and Ruth Downey. “We’re all about making memories for families here at Downey’s Farm, so we have lots of fun in store for people of all ages. We’re really looking forward to kicking off our 2017 season in style.”

Beginning this Saturday and Sunday (April 8 and 9), Easterfest will continue on over the Easter long weekend (April 14, 15 and 16) and will include activities such as face painting, arts and crafts, wagon rides, puppet show, visit with farm animals and a special performance by children’s magician Steve Baker. As is tradition over at Downey’s Farm, children will also be invited to take part in the annual Easter Egg Scramble – where they are set loose across the farm and charged with finding colourful plastic eggs scattered by the Easter Bunny and helpers. All recovered eggs will be exchanged for an “Easter basket of treats”.

You will also be able to purchase various Easter treats and baked goods from the on-site Downey Bakery. Downey’s Estate Winery will also be open on April 8, 9 and 15.

“This is such a fun event – we really, really enjoy putting it on for the locals each and every year,” Ms. Downey said. “It’s something we look to as soon as the weather starts warming up and it’s proven to be a very popular event throughout the community.”

Gates will open each day at 10 a.m. and will close at 5 p.m. Daily admission is $13. The farm is located at 13682 Heart Lake Road, south of King Street.

A family operation, the 215-acre farm has been owned and operated by the Downey family since 1920. Next year, the farm market, housed in a renovated dairy barn, will celebrate its 25th anniversary.
