An Orangeville Police cruiser was forced off the road while attempting to stop a vehicle on John Street north of Townline last Wednesday evening.
On Wednesday, July 11, at about 8:40 p.m., officers received a report of a theft from a Fifth Avenue business, with suspects having fled the scene in a small U-Haul truck. A witness was following the truck while providing information to Orangeville Police.
Officers located the truck on John Street and attempted to make a traffic stop. The truck was operating in an erratic manner and forced the patrol car off of the roadway. The cruiser struck a fence and pergola at a John Street business, the officer receiving minor injuries. The incident caused damage to the police vehicle and the property that was struck. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, heading northbound on John Street.
One female was arrested regarding the theft. Nekime Lidstone, 21, of Waterloo, is charged with theft under $5000 and four counts of breach of probation. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police are continuing their investigation and would like to speak with anyone who has information regarding this incident.
