The Orangeville Outlaws have started the 2015 summer football season with the Bantam team travelling to Beeton to face the TNT Express for their inaugural game.
The Bantams ran into trouble early in the game when the Express returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown.
Orangeville responded when Aidan Oliver had a nice run down the left side to score and close the gap in the first quarter.
A strong first half by the Express saw the host team score three more touchdowns before the teams took a break.
Returning for the second half, the Outlaws proved they have the ability to play a good hard game when they went on defensive mode and shut down the Express for the rest of the game.
After dropping the ball at the three yard line with a first down, the TNT squad faced a wall of Orange as the Outlaws battle back and stopped the Express then drove them back a few yards before taking possession on downs.
The Outlaws defensive team was led by Jackson Bull, Joe Pilatzke, Tyler McConnell, Aaron Hauck, and Nicolos Gray, who all had good solid tackles when stopping the TNT offensive line.
The Outlaws went for the throwing game in the fourth quarter and made some good yards when quarterback Nathan Falconi found the mark with receiver Derek de Langley, but they couldn’t cross the goal line and had to settle for a 30-6 loss in their first game of the season.
“The other team did a lot of blitzing and it’s hard to get the ball in the air,” Said Outlaws quarterback Nathan Falconi. “We starting talking more about the plays after half-time. We had a couple of good ones (passes) and a couple of them were bad.”
Despite the loss, Falconi said he thought the team played a good game.
“It was good for a first game for everyone,” He said. “We’ll probably work more on how to beat the blitz and work on different plays.
All divisions of the Outlaws have a big season ahead of them and will be back on their home field at Westside Secondary School this year.
