The Orangeville Northmen U22 team went to Whitby on August 2 to 4, to compete in the Intermediate B provincials championship tournament and came home with a gold medal.

Teams played in a round-robin format in the preliminary competition.

Game one had the Northmen up against the number two ranked team from Brampton. The Northmen fell behind 4-1 early in the game.

They rebounded in the third period scoring three goals in four minutes to tie the game. They finished with the winning goal with 1:30 remaining on the clock.

Logan Marshall paced the attack with two goals and an assist, while Keaton Walsh picked up two goals. Nick Martino rounded out the scoring with a dramatic winning goal. Chipping in with assists were Marcelo Carrairo (3), Logan Lowrie, Trent Wilson-Daponte and Noah Deacon.

Next up was a big, physical Peterborough team. Peterborough won this one 7-3.

Marcelo Carrairo and Keaton Walsh had a goal and an assist each and Logan Lowrie added a goal.

Orangeville moved onto the semi-finals against Stayner who had won both of their games convincingly and were on a roll. Stayner jumped out to a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period before the Northmen ran off three straight second period goals to take a 4-3 lead.

Stayner scored late in the third to tie it up and it looked the game was heading into overtime, but the Northmen scored the winner with 49 seconds left in the game.

Trent Wilson-Daponte led the offence with a pair of goals, while Marcelo Carrairo, Keaton Walsh and Logan Marshall added a goal and assist each. Holton Marshall picked up two assists and Preston Gear added one.

The win moved Orangeville to the finals and a match-up with Centre Wellington.

The Northmen took a different route in this game, jumping out to a 3-0 first period lead.

Centre Wellington scored one each in the second and the third before pounding goaltender Jacob Hand mercilessly for the final three minutes of the game.

Orangeville held off the onslaught and captured the win and the championship with a 3-2 lead.

Trent Wilson-Daponte picked up a goal and an assist, while Logan Marshall and Marcelo Carrairo rounded out the scoring with a goal each. Keaton Walsh, had two, and Preston Gear chipped in with assists.

The Northmen defence core of Nick Martino, David Fowlie, Griffin Nix, Noah Deacon, Owen Kyle, Kyle Hartley, Kingston McCullough, Tucker Cunnington and the Thunder Bay additions, Jacob Hickerson and Daniel Czerwinski, as well as goalies Aiden Clark and Jacob Hand, were stellar all week in winning gold.
