The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) has approved the Orangeville Junior B Northmen’s bid to host the Canadian Junior B Lacrosse Championships in Orangeville from August 15 to 21, 2016.
Orangeville will act as the host organization for the event and the Alder Street Recreation Centre will be the host arena for the 2016 Founders Cup. This announcement confirms the Ontario Junior B Council’s selection of Orangeville in March as their venue of choice.
One of the main benefits of being the host team is that the Orangeville Junior B Northmen will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament and a chance to compete for the Canadian Championship. Orangeville has never hosted this prestigious event. The Northmen last won the Founders Cup in 1990.
The 2016 Orangeville Founders Cup Organizing Committee started preparations almost a year ago, but now the detail work begins.
The committee is inviting anyone who might want to volunteer to help in the organizing of the event to attend a meeting next Thursday, July 2nd at 10 p.m., in the TD Room at Alder Street arena. This meeting will take place immediately following Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarter-Final Playoffs.
The Orangeville Junior B Northmen finished first in the Mid-West Division and third overall in the Western Conference this season. The team begins their first-round playoff series against Guelph Regals this Saturday, June 27, at 7 p.m. Game 3 will be played on July 2 and, if necessary, game 5 will go on Sunday, July 5 at 7 p.m. All games will take place at the Alder Street Recreation Centre.
