Two games behind them in playoffs against St. Kitts
The Orangeville Junior B Northmen launched their playoff effort with back to back wins over the St. Catharines Spartans in round one OJBLL action.
Game one of the best-of-five series got underway in Orangeville on Friday, June 27, at the Alder Street arena.
After playing to a 3-3 tie in the fist period, the the Northmen scored three unanswered goals in the second frame to lead 6-3 going into the final period.
Both teams scored singles in the third period to end the game 7-4 for the Northmen.
Orangeville goals came from Zach Ursu, and Steve Sutton for two, in the first period.
Sutton picked up his third of the game early in the second period followed by singles from Tyler Symonds and Riley Thompson.
Sutton’s fourth and final goal came at :59 seconds in the third period.
The squad travelled to St. Catharines on Sunday (June 29) for game two of the series.
This time the Northmen commanded the first period leaving with a 4-1 lead when the buzzer sounded to end the frame.
The Spartans challenged in the second period to close the gap, outscoring the Northmen 3-1 to make it a 5-4 game going in the final period.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the last frame and the Northmen left the arena with a 5-4 win and a 2-0 lead in the series.
The series will return to Orangeville for game three on Thursday, July 3, at the Alder Street arena.
Game time is 8:00 p.m.
