When you decide it’s time get back into shape, improve your mobility, or work though an injury and regain your strength, having someone who understands fitness to coach you along can be the difference between personal success or finding yourself back in the same old routine.

At HQ Fit Studio in Orangeville, they focus on one-on-one training to help people achieve their goals.

Gym owner, and trainer, Kendal Merrill, works with clients to improve their physical fitness in a variety of ways.

“We’re a fully private facility,” Kendal explained. “You can’t just walk in and get a membership here. When you come in, you’ll sit down with a trainer for a consultation. They will ask what your goals are in the fitness world, and we’ll align you with a proper trainer. Then we make a calendar for you and what works best for you. Most people come two or three times a week. It’s very private, most of the time you’re by yourself.”

That doesn’t mean they aren’t looking for new members. Most clients are referred by others who have had a good experience at the gym.

“We want people who want to come to us,” Kendal said of members who are wanting to start and stick to a fitness program. “It depends on what your goals are. You’ll go through a checklist of what you’re looking to get out of your experience and time here.”

She added, “Here, we’re more about education. We want to instill the proper fundamentals and mechanics into you while you’re working out. We work with everyone from high school students to elderly people who want to work on their mobility.”

Some clients just want to lose a little weight, while others are looking to increase their overall fitness. Sport specific athletes use the fitness studio and can have a program tailored to their sport.

The gym is outfitted with a full array of weight and exercise machines. Each one is designed for a specific task and to work on certain muscle groups or exercises.

Although many people have one-on-one training, the gym also has boot camp style routines for some members.

“At night we run boot camps,” Kendal explained. “Six to eight women come in here, and it works on a circuit style.”

The women do a 45 second session at each station, then move to the next one so they exercise all their muscles.

If you are a beginner or experienced in the gym, discipline is an important part of staying with a program and getting results.

“The way our packages work, is we recommend that you start with a three-month package with us,” explained Kendal. “That’s when your body will finally start to see the changes, your lifestyle will start to adjust after that two and a-half month, or three-month mark, and you’ll be use to coming here. We will schedule you for certain days of the week, and what that does is keeps you accountable. It’s a discipline. When you come in your trainer will have everything ready for you.”

HQ Fit Studio offers personal training for people who are beginners and a bit nervous about working out in a bigger facility or athletes who want to improve their fitness level in a well-appointed gym with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
