Headwaters Arts’ Holiday Sale and Exhibit, Artful Giving, opened Wednesday (Nov. 13) in the Alton Mill Arts Centre. The annual holiday sale offers a wide range of unique art and crafts running through the whole season until January 5th.

Special this weekend, November 16 and 17 at the Arts Centre in downtown Alton, will be a Holiday Open House featuring special events. The Open House kicks off  this Friday evening with shopping until 9 p.m. with all the galleries, shops and artists studios open to the public.

Gallery representatives say shoppers will find treasures ranging “from the traditional to minimalist or modern to whimsical gifts.” “Twenty artist members of Headwaters Arts have been busy in their workshops and studios creating and making a spectacular array of pieces, said Headwaters Arts member Connie Munson.

Headwaters Arts is a not-for-profit organization which “celebrates and promotes the work of their artist members” with a variety of shows throughout the year.  “Gifts from the heart made by their hands” this season include: thrown and hand-built pottery and ceramics, encaustic and mixed media art, walking sticks, art glass work, fine art in acrylics, oils, and chalk pastels, photography, limited edition prints, jewellery, scarves, bags, mini-masterpieces, original art greeting cards, hand-carved wooden pens, coasters, clocks, Christmas ornaments, and Country Condiments.

Connie Munson says new items and art work are brought into the picturesque gallery each week  – where guests can enjoy the shopping “far from those madding crowds.”

Alton Mills Gallery hours are from Wednesday to Sunday, and holiday Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission and free parking. For more information on the Headwaters Arts group of artists and the current shows at the Headwaters Arts Gallery, please call (519) 943-1149.
