Muskies win 5-4 over Thundercats

The Shelburne Muskies Sr. “AA” squad had their biggest win of the season Friday (Dec. 4) night on the road as they knocked off the first place Durham Thundercats 5-4 in an overtime shootout.

Steve McSwain opened the scoring in the game with helpers from Santino DiFlorio and Ryan Halbych however the Thundercats scoree four straight unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead with just over ten minutes left in the game.

The Muskies battled back in this one as Ryan Halbych, Mike Spearing and Chris Greer scored three goals in less than three minutes to tie the game up at four with 7:02 left.

The Muskies held on while also killing off two minor penalties in the last five minutes to force the overtime.

Neither of the teams could score in the overtime period.

The Muskies then took the shootout scoring twice on their three opportunities while the Durham side could only score once.

Goalie Eddie Davie was a wall in goal for the Muskies turning aside 46 shots in the win.

The Muskies had five minors on the night while the T-Cats only had three minors.

Saturday night the Muskies could not follow up with a another win in Ripley with seven regulars out of the line up they battled hard but came up just short in dropping a close 4-3 score to the home side Wolves.

Nolan Tone, Nick Hodgson and Tyler Hogan scored the Muskies goals.

This Saturday, December 12, night will be the last game the Muskies will play before the new year when the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks come to town for a 8:00 p.m. start at the Fish Tank .

This will be the first time these two teams have met this year.

On December 19, the Muskies have their Alumni Game at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in Shelburne starting at 7:00 p.m.
