The Mono Nordic Ski Club provided a day of free entertainment and exercise during its annual Family Day ski day on the trails at Monora Park.
Over 400 skiers took advantage and turned out to spend the day gliding through the trails and taking advantage of the winter holiday.
This year’s turn-out included people from around the region and beyond. The day was made possible by the Ski Club with the support of the Town of Mono who opened the club park facilities free of charge.
More experienced skiers got right out on the trails.
Beginners were able to get free rentals and were fitted and given advice by the more than 50 volunteers who came out to help.
“I love skiing. The reason I’m volunteering is because it’s fun,” Said event volunteer Nicole Wickens. “It’s fun to go out and help people. I’ve outfitted around 12 people today.”
As volunteer, Nicole helped people select the right length of skis, the proper size poles, and showed them how to hook their boots into the bindings.
“I give you instructions on how to ski after I’ve given you your poles and skis. I show you how to put your feet onto the skis and how to get your feet out,” Nicole explained.
With temperatures just about right for a winter event, skiers where on the trails all day beginning at 9a.m. and wrapping it up and 4 p.m.
