Orangeville resident, Alexander Maycock, was recently named to the Ontario Cross Country Ski Team.

“Congratulations on your selection to the 2015/2016 Ontario Ski Team. Your hard work over the past season has paid off,” Said Jen Tomlinson, Cross Country Ontario High Performance Chair,” When notifying Macock of his selection to the team. “Based on your performance in the 2014/2015 season you have been selected to the OST. The OST is a team dedicated to the continued pursuit of high performance at a National Level. The benefits of this team are designed to support athletes in advancing their technical, tactical, and physical skills with the rest of Canada. This pursuit requires a high level of maturity and commitment from our athletes.”

Fifteen year old Maycock is a two-time OFSAA Junior Boys Nordic Skiing Champion.

“I am very excited and honoured to be selected. I had some good races this winter and was hoping to make the team,” Said Maycock. ”It will be a great opportunity to train with all of the top skiers in Ontario.”

Maycock skis out of the Mono Nordic Ski Club under the guidance of coaches Jon Ahokas and Scott Martin.

“I really want to thank my coaches and all the volunteers at Mono Nordic for their assistance over the years. I want to thank Bob Smithson and Cullen Perry for laying the foundation in my early ski days and more recently I have been fortunate to work with Ahokas and Martin, who bring a great deal of expertise and passion to their coaching.”

Maycock will take a few weeks off for rest and recovery and then he will begin dryland training as he looks forward to the 2015/2016 ski season.
