Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company (DMIC) has announced a 10-year, $50,000 commitment to support the Headwaters Health Care Foundation (HHCF).

During a presentation made at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 27, Ed Forbes, DMIC President and CEO, remarked that, as a corporate citizen for over 100 years, Dufferin Mutual is proud to partner with both HHCF and Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) for the betterment of the community in which they work and do business.

Because the Ontario government does not fund the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals, every piece of equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients – from wheelchairs to delicate surgical instrumentation to monitors and xray machines – are purchased using funds donated by the community.

Each year HHCC purchases approximately $2 million of new and enhanced medical equipment to serve the health care needs of around 135,000 people who live in Dufferin County and the surrounding areas.

“This is a remarkable contribution,” said Peter Varga, Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer. “This money allows us to make long-term improvements at Headwaters Health Care Centre to enhance to diagnostic and treatment experience for everyone who turns to Headwaters for medical care.”

He added, “On behalf of the thousands of people who utilize our community hospital each year, I give heartfelt thanks to Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company for this generous donation.

Dufferin Mutual Insurance Company was founded in 1985 as a farm mutual and remains a true ‘mutual’ to this day, owned entirely by policyholders. Its headquarters is based in Shelburne.
