It’s been a two-year wait for the Orangeville Junior C Northmen to get out on the floor and start playing their game.

After their application to enter the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League was approved for the 2020 season, the province shut down of most sporting activities due to the pandemic left the new club with nowhere to play

They were in the same boat as every other sports club in the province, but as a brand new entry it was a disappointment that was hard to take as the work to getting the team ready for an inaugural season was already done.

The Club was able to put together a team and had some exhibition games in 2021. This at least gave the players some experience at the Junior C level.

The Northmen have been going through try-outs for over three weeks to prepare of a pre-season tournament that took place on April 16, at Tony Rose arena in Orangeville.

The Northmen were up against the Barrie Bombers in a morning game.

It was a back-and-forth game with the lead never going past a single goal. The Northmen were training 6-5 in the final minute of the game before scoring with 44 seconds left on the clock to tie the game at six.

The second game had the Northmen up against the Wilmot Wild.

Wilmot took an early 2-0 lead, but the Northmen fought back to score, and they took a 4-3 loss when the final buzzer sounded.

The final game pitted the Northmen against the Fergus Thistles.

The Northmen played well but had to settle for a 4-2 loss.

The Junior C Northmen will play their home opener on Friday, April 22, when they host the Fergus Thistles at Tony Rose arena.

Game time is 8:00 p.m.
