23-3 win over Mississauga

They have a mercy rule in baseball – maybe they should consider one in lacrosse.

Friday night’s (June 6) Junior A game at the Alder Street arena ended with an Rayburn Construction Orangeville Northmen 22-3 win over the Mississauga Tomahawks.

Basically, this game was over before the second half of the first period even got underway.

The Northmen notched six goals by the 7:12 mark, leaving the Mississauga team chasing ghost around the arena floor.

The Tomahawks managed to score a single in the second period to O-ville’s four.

It was the third period that probably never should have happened.

With an 11-3 lead going into the final frame, the Northmen scored 11 unanswered goals to end the game.

The Mississauga team is winless after 11 games and have only average 4.5 goals per game.

Compare that to the first place Six Nations Arrows who have average 13.5 goals per game and the second place Northmen who have averaged 12 goals per game.

After the weekend, the Northmen have a 6-3 record and 12 points after eight games – good for fourth place standing.

The Whitby Warriors are in second place with 14 followed by the Brampton Excelsiors.

It’s still a tough battle between the top six teams in the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League.

The Jr. A Northmen will be back at the Alder Street arena in Orangville on Friday, June 13, when they will host the Six Nations Arrows.

Game time is 8:00 p.m.
