Road games deliver mixed results
The Orangeville Junior Flyers are holding their own but still waiting for a couple of wins that will flip their record to the plus side after winning their road game in Burlington but taking a loss in North York two days later.
The trip to Burlington on Friday, October 3, turned into a good offensive game for the Flyers when they scored early in the first period then took a two goal lead with a second marker early in the second period.
Orangeville’s Devon Gillham scored the first period goal with Peter Stepanis notching the second period goal.
Ian Nichols gave the Flyers a three goal lead with another early period goal in the final 20 minutes.
Burlington finally scored with just under three minutes left in the game – too late to matter.
O-ville capped the game with a final unassisted goal from Shawn Topatigh with :46 seconds left on the clock.
The squad travelled to North York on Sunday (Oct. 5) to meet the Rangers for an afternoon game.
After playing to a 2-2 tie at the end of the second period, the Rangers got the edge with a mid-frame goal in the third period and sealed the deal with an empty netter when the Flyers put six attackers on the ice late in the period.
Flyers goals came from Ian Nichols in the first and Ryan Anton in the second. Both were powerplay goals.
The Flyers will be back on home ice this Saturday, October 11, to host the Hamilton Red Wings at the Alder Street arena.
Game time is 7:00 p.m.
