The Orangeville Junior B Northmen are off to a good start in their quarter-final playoff series against the Guelph Regals.
The Northmen hammered the Regals 17-8 in the opening game of the series on Saturday, June 27, at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville.
They followed up with a 13-6 win in the Guelph arena on Monday, June 29, in game two of the series.
It was expected that the Regals would put up a better fight than they have in the playoffs.
At the end of the regular season the Northmen finished with a first place in the Mid West division with 33 points – fourth place over all in the 25 team Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League.
Guelph finished the season with 21 points and a respectable 10-9-1 record.
Game one of the series saw the Northmen blow the game wide open in the second period scoring 11 goals before the Regals could respond with a single with a minute remaining on the clock.
Four more Northmen goals in the third period ended the game 17-8.
Game two on Monday night also saw a strong second period effort from Orangeville when they shut-out the Regals 3-0 in the first period then outscored them 7-5 in the second frame.
The Northmen took the game with a three more goals in the third period to leave with the 13-6 win.
In other quarter-final series, the Six Nations Rebels are leading the Wallaceburg Red Devils 2-0.
The St. Catharines Spartans are tied at 1-1 with the Niagara Thunderhawks.
The Windsor Clippers and Elora Mohawks are tied 1-1 in their quarter-final series.
The Orangeville / Guelph series will return to Orangeville Thursday (July 2) night for game three at the Alder Street arena.
