The Orangeville Junior B Northmen wasted no time in blasting out of the starting gate during their season and home opener against the London Blue Devils Monday night at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville.
At the end of the first period the Northmen were leading 5-2.
Returning for the second period the O-ville squad kept up the pressure and peppered the London goalie to score seven more before the frame was over.
The Northmen kept it going to win all three periods when the finished off outscoring the Blue Devils 4-2 in the final period to end the game 16-6.
Of course it’s way to early in the season to predict how the squad is shaping up. One game means little in the schedule, but over all the team was looking slick for the entire time out there on the floor.
There are 25 teams in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League this season.
The Northmen are in the Mid West Division along with Elora, Guelph, and Owen Sound.
Last year the Northmen ended the regular season with a first place finish in their division.
The knocked out the St. Catherines Spartans in the first round of the playoffs then eliminated the Windsor Clippers in the quarter-final.
They bowed out of the playoffs with a 3-1 series loss to Six Nations in the semi-final round.
Prior to Monday’s home opener, the club payed tribute to Terry Sanderson and held a moment of silence.
Sanderson’s #19 was retired in honour of their former player and a founder of Junior Lacrosse in Orangeville.
