.500 weekend for Orangeville
The Orangeville Junior A Flyers have a 9-7 record after a weekend that saw them lose one game at home but pick up the win the next day in an afternoon game.
The squad was shut-out 3-0 during their home game against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres on Saturday (Oct. 18) on home ice at the Alder Street arena.
After giving up a powerplay goal in the first period, the Flyers were trailing 2-0 at the end of the second then gave up another powerplay goal in the third to end the game.
They returned the following day to host the Mississauga Charges with a 3:30 p.m. start.
This time the Flyers had a better start scoring two unanswered goals in the first period from Lucas Smilsky and Devon Gillham.
A single in the second from from Ryan Anton gave O-ville a three goal lead.
Moving in the final 20 minutes, the lead fell apart when Mississauga scored four times and the Flyers notched a single – to make it a 4-4 game.
It went into overtime to decide the winner.
Orangeville’s Smilsky got the winning goal on a powerplay effort at 4:59 into the OT period to give the Flyers the win.
It was the Flyers’ ninth win of the season after 16 games – good for 19 points and a second place standing in the West Division of the OJHL.
Overall, Trenton and Cobourg lead the League tied a 24 points.
The Flyers will be back on home ice this Saturday, October 25, to host the Kingston Voyageurs.
Game time is 7:00 p.m.
