Jr A Flyers maintain second place in West Division

What a difference a year makes.

The Orangeville Flyers Junior A squad have already surpassed their win total from the entire 2013 / 14 season.

After 20 games, the Flyers have won 11 – that’s seven more than they won all last season.

The record gives the squad a second place standing in the WestDivision of the Ontario Junior Hockey League and 24 points. That gives them a number seven spot over all in the 22 team League.

Saturday night’s (Nov. 1) game didn’t work out too well though, when the Flyers dropped their home game to the Wellington Dukes.

After taking a one goal lead in the first period on a single from Ian Nichols, the Flyers hit the wall in the wall in the second frame when Wellington scored three unanswered goals – two of them on powerplay opportunities.

Returning for the final 20 minutes, the Dukes scored two more to make it a 5-1 game with less than half a period to go.

Lucas Smilsky notched a O-ville goal late in the period.

Wellington finished off the night with a final empty netter when the Flyers put an extra attacker on the ice.

Over all, the Trenton Golden Hawks are leading the League with 32 points.

They are followed by the Whitby Fury with 29 points, and Aurora and Georgetown – both with 27 points.

The Flyers will be in Aurora on Friday, November 7, for a 7:30 p.m. start against the Tigers.

They will return to home ice at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville to host the Toronto Predators.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.
