Home opener starts the season for O-ville squad

Screen Shot 2015-09-16 at 9.04.48 PMThe Orangeville Ice Crushers started the year with a pair of wins and four points to begin the 2015 / 16 Greater Metro Hockey League season.

The Crushers season got underway with a home opener at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville on Wednesday, September 9, when they hosted the Shelburne Sharks for game one of the schedule.

The Ice Crushers wasted no time in getting things done in Wednesday’s game when they opened the scoring at 4:32 into the first frame on a goal from Joseph Alexander.

Two more O-ville goals followed from David Hooper and Darian Harris before Shelburne could respond and notch one late in the period.

The team traded goals in the second period to make it a 4-2 game going into the final 20 minutes of play.

Sheldon Papesh scored the second period Crushers goal.

O-ville’s Dawson Heyworth scored the only third period goal to give the Crushers the 5-2 win.

The Ice Crushers made the trip to Bradford on Sunday, September 13, to take on the Rattlers for their second game of the season.

After trailing 1-0 in the first period, the Crushers tied the game at 1:10 into the second frame.

From there it was a tough battle as both squads tried to get the edge.

At the end of the period the game was tied at four when the O-ville team notch two goals with less than two minutes left on the clock.

Second period Orangeville goals came from Brad Ferrell for two, Joseph Alexander, and Darian Harris.

With no scoring in the third period the teams returned for an overtime period to settle the game.

The Ice Crushers took the win when Joe Illig notched the sudden death win- ner at 17:22 into the OT period.

The Ice Crushers hosted the Alliston Coyotes on Wednesday (Sept 16.) night with results coming too late for press time.

Back for the regular Wednesday night home game, the Ice Crushers will host the Colborne Chiefs at the Alder Street arena on September 23.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
