Hockley Resort’s 19th golf tourney raised $60,000 for local charities

By Tabitha Wells – Hockley Valley Resort hosted their 19th Annual Charity Golf Tournament Tuesday. The event brought in $60,000 for local charities through the day, which allowed participants to experience golf, the spa and the fine-dining offered by the resort.

“For 19 years, our annual charity event has helped to raise funds, awareness and hope for some very deserving local causes,” said the resort’s John Paul Adamo.

Despite torrential rains and a thunderstorm that sent golfers off the course after only a couple holes of golf, participants were still able to enjoy a fun-filled day with entertainment, bands and a large-screen live feed of the FIFA World Cup semi-finals between Germany and Brazil.

“We are proud. Proud of our Team, our sponsors, and our attendees,” said Nancy Adamo, owner of the resort. “Because of you, we have raised in excess of $1,000,000 over the past 19 years. You have made a difference in someone’s life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

This year, the money raised throughout the day from the event supported three causes in the Headwaters region: The Headwaters Health Care Centre, Meagan’s Walk and the Ontario Track 3 Ski Association.

Out of the money raised, $40,000 was donated to the Headwaters Health Care Centre as the final part of Hockley Valley Resort’s commitment to the hospital.

“We are so honoured to be a part of the Headwaters region, and we strive to give back to the community in any way we can,” said Julie Adamo, vice-president of the resort. “To that end, in this, our final year we are proud to be writing a cheque for $40,000 to the Headwater’s Health Care Centre.”

In the evening, attendees were treated to a full dinner provided by Hockley, as well as a dessert buffet and samples of some of Hockley Valley Resort’s recently produced wine.

Following the dinner, the Adamo family joined members of Headwaters Health Care Centre and their special guests, two Toronto-based Mounties in full red serge, for the official presentation of their donation to the hospital.
