It’s surprising that the Orangeville Giants home game against the Mansfield Cubs even got underway, but they played through the wet weather on Tuesday, May 13, at Princess of Wales Park.
After an initial downpour that left home plate under a couple of inches of water, the weather eased off enough to allow the game to start at little past the 7:30 p.m. scheduled time.
The rain started up again when the first inning got underway but the club’s were determined to get this one behind them as the game had already been rescheduled from May 5.
If there was any thought of throwing a spit-ball, this would have been the game to do it. The game ended in a 6-6 tie.
The Giants were supposed to be in New Lowell on May 15, to face the Knights, but again that game had to be postponed.
There is a growing list of games that have had to be rescheduled as this rainy Spring season has been creating all sorts of problems on local diamonds.
All those games still have to be played to fulfill the schedule, so to avoid have a list of games to be played at a later date, may of the games go ahead even if it means getting wet.
It’s still early in the season but the standings are starting to shape up with the Bolton Brewers on the top with 14 points and 7-1 record.
Most of the other teams, however, have only played two or three games so it will be a few weeks before the standings shake out.
The Giants will be in Bolton on Wednesday, May 28, to meet the Dodgers under with the lights with an
8:30 p.m. start.
They will be back in O-ville on Sunday, June 1, to host the Ivy Leafs at Springbrook Park.
