Georgian Shores Catering celebrated the official grand opening of their local retail location on Sept. 30, with live music, giveaways, free samples, and in-store specials.
The storefront is located at 280 Broadway, Unit 1 and offers freshly cooked meals everyday out of its refrigerator that can be heated at home.
All of the food is top quality, as it’s prepared by two highly skilled executive chefs, Dave Scoffield and Wade Plewes, while still maintaining affordability.
“A lot of people love the idea of having fresh food and not frozen because our fridge is always fresh daily,” explained Wendy Stiperski, operations manager of Georgian Shores Catering.
“We also keep everything local in the store, so the olive oils are from Barrie, the candles are from Orangeville, honeys and maple syrups are from Orillia.”
While the menu at Georgian Shores changes daily, some of the most popular signature dishes include their savory pies, lamb, steak, lasagna, sausage rolls, cabbage rolls, and an array of delicious desserts.
There are also different specials run each day of the week on fresh foods like Mac and Cheese or quiche.
While Georgian Shores Catering is branded as offering fine foods, Striperski stressed that it’s available at a reasonable cost.
“I think people are sometimes hesitant to come in, they don’t really know that we have food to take home at amazing prices,” she explained.
Stiperski noted that the local retail store is a great addition to the full-service catering they offer for private or corporate events and weddings.
Georgian Shores Catering opened in Midland a couple years ago and in June of this year it opened in Orangeville. Stiperski said with her and the business’s two executive chefs being from the area, it’s nice to come home.
She is from Orangeville, Scoffield is from Bellwood, and Plewes is from Caledon East.
Scoffield has over 20 years of experience in the culinary arts, training under Master Chef Enrico Montecci, who was the White House’s personal chef. He has also cooked for world leaders at the G 20 summit. The last 18 years, Scoffield has ran kitchens at top restaurants and fine dining resorts across Ontario.
Plewes has over 28 years of culinary experience, working in all facets of the restaurant industry, from causal to fine dining. He’s also the formal co-owner of Fergie’s Fine Foods in Ferguson and has worked as a caterer on the Credit Valley Explorer Tour Train in Orangeville.
Going forward, Stiperski said she’s hoping to get the Orangeville location of Georgian Shores Catering more involved in supporting different not-for-profits and initiatives within the community. In Midland, the business is part of the town’s Chamber of Commerce and donates annually to various charitable causes.
Stiperski told the Citizen she’d encourage anyone in town who hasn’t yet tested out Georgian Shores Catering to give it a try.
“If you don’t want to go to McDonald’s or be getting pizza every night, come on down,” she said. “I have so many mothers come in and say, ‘Thank God you’re here. We have swimming lessons tonight, I don’t have time to cook, and I’m tired of McDonald’s or fast food.’”
