Freight train, car collide in Brampton

The Orangeville Railway Development Corporation has been notified by Cando Ltd. that a collision occurred between a slow-moving southbound freight train and an eastbound motor vehicle just before 10:30 a.m. today (April 8) at a crossing on Sandalwood Parkway in Brampton.

One person is reported dead and another, reported to be in critical condition, has been transported via air ambulance to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

The collision occurred at a level signalized crossing and reports indicate the signals were activated at the time.

The Major Collision Bureau of Peel Region Police Services is investigating the collision.

“I am deeply saddened by this tragedy,” said Jeremy D Williams, President of Orangeville Development Railway Corporation, owners of the rail line. “My condolences go out to the family of the individual who died today. I sincerely hope the survivor of the crash makes a full recovery. My thoughts are with all involved, including the train crew who must be devastated by this traumatic event.”
