It’s not over yet. With four games left in the regular season schedule for the Orangeville Junior A Flyers, there’s a close battle taking place for the low seed playoff birth.
The South and West Division will have eight teams entered into the first round with the south division already having four teams guaranteed a place.
The West division has already seen the Georgetown Raiders capture the division title with 76 points and four games remaining.
The Flyers are in second place in the division with 47 points. The Buffalo Jr. Sabres are right behind them with 45 points.
The Flyers will have to put out a good effort in the final few games.
Their last two outings have resulting in games on the negative side.
At home on Saturday, February 7, the Flyers had to settle for a 6-5 loss to the visiting Hamilton Red Wings.
After a first period that ended in a 1-1 tie, the Flyers went ahead by a goal three times – and each time the Red Wings matched it and tied it up, before the O-ville squad got the final second period goal to take a 5-4 lead going into the third period.
Hamilton scored two, to make it a 6-5 game and they Red Wings went back to Steel City with the win.
The next day, the Flyers met up with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in Toronto.
O-ville managed to score the opening goal but that was it for the night.
The Canadiens tied it up on a powerplay then went ahead with two markers in the second period.
A lone late period Toronto goal in the third period on an empty net ended the game.
The Flyers will be back on home ice at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville this Saturday, February 14, to host the Burlington Cougars.
The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
