The Orangeville Flyers Major Bantam AE team won the OMHA championship with a sweep over Oakville ending with a 4-1 win in the final game on March 19, on home ice at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville.

The Flyers were leading the series after the first two games winning 5-1, in game one, and leaving the ice with a 4-2 win in game two.

O-ville opened the scoring in the final game in the first period when Liam Raymond found the back of the net after taking the feed from Cameron Dunkerley.

Less than a minute later, Ben Van Zant scored goal number two after picking his own rebound on a shot on net.

Goal number three came with :16 seconds left on the clock on a goal from John Viveiros to give the Flyers a 3-0 lead going into the second period.

Liam Raymond got his second of the game in the second period after taking a long pass from linemate Caleb Young.

Oakville scored a single to make it a 4-1 game but that’s all they could do for the night and the Flyers held them off to win the game and claim the championship.

Over the season, the Major Bantam AE squad played a total of 69 games – winning 65 of them.

That includes tournament games in which the team won all five tournaments they were entered in.

Their regular season record of 24-3-1 moved the team to the top of the Tri-County standings and made them the number one seed in the OMHA playdowns.

In the playdowns, the Flyers won their quarter-final series in a sweep over Brampton.

They dispatched Chatham-Kent in three games, before facing the Oakville Rangers in the final for a perfect 15-0 record for the playoffs.
