The Cardinal Woods Social’s inaugural End of the Summer Party in the Park on Sunday saw a great turnout with roughly 500 people buying tickets to participate in the community fair part of the event.
The community fair was held at Mono College Park and featured a petting zoo, pony rides, and a bouncy castle for a nominal fee. A vendor market, featuring 30 businesses, food trucks and live band were also at the event for everyone to enjoy.
Event organizer Velvet Alcorn said the event was attended by Mono councillors and mayor John Creelman who were very supportive.
“The feedback from our audience was that they were pleased with what was offered and how well organized it was, which is wonderful to hear,” she noted.
A 50/50 and raffle held at the event raised over $500 for Dufferin Victim Services.
“Our committee is very community oriented and want to be able to give back,” noted Alcorn.
She said the Cardinal Woods Social is thankful to the sponsors who made the event possible and volunteers who pitched in.
Some high school students volunteered which helped them get their community hours, Alcorn noted.
Going forward she said the End of Summer Party in the Park will become an annual event.
“This is the first of many to come,” she said. “There will be a rink installed by the residents and maintained by the residents so [we] will need volunteers to help out with that as well.”
A winter carnival is also being discussed by the Cardinal Woods Social for a future event.
