Although Orangeville’s industrial sector has seen a lot of struggles over the last few years, the future isn’t so bleak.
Local manufacturer DS Handling Systems Limited has announced its recent purchase Brampton-based Aerdon Lifts. The acquisition, which will see the company move to Orangeville, will not only increase DS Handling’s manufacturing business, but will also help to create more local employment opportunities.
The operation will continue under the Aerdon name at DS Handling’s new 83,000-square-foot facility on Riddell Road in Orangeville’s industrial area. While Aerdon has been operating in a facility in Brampton, based on the size of the new DS Handling facility, the company felt it would be a good move to have it in Orangeville.
“It didn’t make sense for us to keep Aerdon in Brampton. With our huge facility here in Orangeville we have more than enough room for us to bring Aerdon here,” said Jason Marr, Sales Manager at DS Handling. “Much of our business goes far and beyond the GTA, and Orangeville is a very accessible area from a freight and shipping standpoint.”
According to a press release, DS Handling has been a customer of Aerdon for over 25 years, making them already familiar with their products as well as supplier capabilities.
“Now that [Aerdon] resides under our roof, it allows us to not only pursue our customer base for more lift business, but also grow the reseller network in North America for Aerdon,” said Mr. Marr.
Because of having their own engineering staff in both mechanical and electrical departments, DS Handing’s engineering support team will be able to tackle more non-standard applications in industry as well as branch into more custom lift designs.
“We brought the Aerdon manufacturing staff and the DS Handling manufacturing staff and cross¬trained them on each business’s processes,” said Mr. Marr. “Since the acquisition we have already made several local hires in both manufacturing as well as engineering.”
In order to ensure processes run smoothly, Aerdon will function under the same management as DS Handling, which will also allow them to keep costs low and minimize the margin of error.
