Four high schools compete in opening round
The girls high school hockey season is set up as a series of tournaments with results tallied to determine the standings.
Each tournament features four of the five high schools entered who play off against each other through the day.
In addition to Westside, teams represented Centre Dufferin District High School in Shelburne, Wellington Heights from Mount Forest, and Norwell District S.S. from Palmerston. Erin District High School also has a team entered but was not scheduled for Thursday’s tournament.
“There are five teams – four teams go in each tournament so we sit out one tour- nament so we rotate around,” Explained Shelburne coach Pete Jensen. “There’s four teams at each tournament and five tournaments in total. Everyone gets 12 games.”
The Thunder came up short in their first game taking a 7-0 loss to Norwell in their morning game.
They were edged out in the final game taking a 2-1 loss to Centre Dufferin in the afternoon game.
Megan Thring got the only Westside goal in the afternoon match.
Norwell District is leaving the District after the first tournament followed by Wellington Heights and Centre Dufferin.
