On Tuesday of last week, Rick Beaver, Director, Citizenship, with the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade, hosted a 2016 Ontario Volunteer Service awards ceremony in Mississauga. This year, the Ontario program honoured 11,000 volunteers at many events across Ontario. Attendees at Tuesday’s event collectively contributed 2,064 years of service to a variety of local area community based organizations.

The Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival was pleased to have a group of Volunteers recognized for providing collectively over 60 years of service to support the Festival.  Long standing volunteers Winston Uytenbogaart, Gord McWiliams, Gary Brown, James Kurtz and Patti and Brian Smith have all given tirelessly of their time to help make the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival one of the Top 100 Festivals and Events for 2016 as recognized by Festivals and Events Ontario.

“With the Festival now in its 14th year, and with many volunteers having been with us since the very beginning… it was difficult to select who to nominate for this award knowing that we could only put six candidates forward for consideration,” said Said Larry Kurtz, Festival Founder and Artistic Director. “We feel this distinguished group has provided exemplary service to the Festival and serves as example to others who may wish to make a difference in their community.”
