Block Box brining fun activities to neighbourhood parks this summer

July 14, 2022   ·   0 Comments

Fun activities are being brought to Orangeville residents this summer, right in their own neighbourhood.

This is being done through the Town of Orangeville’s new Neighbourhood Block Box, which is a mobile programming trailer. The programs are being run by the town’s recreation and events division and the Orangeville Public Library.

A variety of activities will be planned for everyone – all ages, all abilities, all interests.

The Block Box programming aligns with the Town of Orangeville’s Recreation and Parks Master Plan recommendation to develop programs at outdoor locations for all ages. It also aligns with the plan’s recommendation regarding the suitability of parks for hosting outdoor programs.

Ray Osmond, General Manager of Community Services and Acting CAO says the Town is focused on offering programs for everyone in the community.

“COVID certainly has hindered opportunities for people to get involved and the Town recognizes the need for people to stay socially connected and active. The Block Box provides programming at no cost to residents in key parks across the community. It’s a great way to get out, get active and meet your neighbours and our Community Services team this summer,” he said.

The Block Box will be at the Alder Parklands at 275 Alder Street behind the recreation centre July 11-14 and then on the move to Harvey Curry Park, home of Every Kid’s Park, July 18-30, Rebecca Hills Park August 2-13 and Parkinson Crescent Park from August 15-27 and back to Every Kid’s Park August 29 to September 2. Programs will include stories with the Library on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. for French/English story time and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. for family story time.

Recreation Neighbourhood Program Leaders will plan a variety of sports, games, crafts, movies and a whole lot of fun throughout the week. Check the Town’s website at orangeville.ca under the Things to Do tab, Neighbourhood Block Box for more information on dates, locations and activities.
