The Orangeville Americans had a rough week dropping two games before getting one on the plus side during a road game in Meaford.
The squad hosted the Grey Highllands Bravehearts for their regular Wednesday night game at the Alder Street arena on November 26.
After taking a 4-2 lead in the first period, the Americans hit a wall and came up empty in the second frame allowing the Bravehearts to notch a single making it a 4-3 game going into the final 20 minutes of play.
Grey Highlands scored early in third period then took the lead with just over 17 minutes left on the clock.
The Americans put six attackers on the ice in a bid to get back into the game, but it was over when Grey Highlands placed the puck into the empty net for a 6-4 win.
The O-ville squad didn’t fair any better when they travelled to Toronto on Saturday, November 29, to take on the Blue Ice Jets.
Toronto scored two unanswered goals in the first period to take the lead and never gave the Americans a chance to get back into the mix.
Orangeville’s Evan Bryk scored early in the second period but another Toronto goal gave the Ice Jets a 3-1 advantage going into the final period.
The Ice Jets capped the game with two more in the final 20 minutes of play.
Americans’ forward Brad Ferrell notched a final Orangeville goal at the midway mark and the game ended with a 5-2 loss for the Americans.
The Americans got on the plus side when the travelled to Meaford to take on the Knights in a Saturday game on November 30.
O-ville’s Alex Dyer opened the scoring at 1:27 into the game for the only goal in the first period.
Meaford responded in the second period with a goal at the 7:50 mark, then got the go ahead goal later in the period.
It was the final frame that made the difference for the Orangeville squad when they tied it up on a marker from Brett Bloor, then went ahead on a powerplay effor from David Hooper.
With just under eight minutes left on the clock, the Knights tied the game and with no more scoring, the teams returned for an overtime period.
Again no one could find the back of the net and the squad came back out for a shoot-out.
Orangeville’s Joey Keenan notched the winner that gave the Americans the 4-3 win.
The Americans will be back on home ice on Wednesday, December 10, when they host the Rama Aces at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
