The Alliston Hornets have moved into first place in the Georgian Mid Ontario Hockey League and are now seven points ahead of the second place Penetang Kings.
With 37 points and 18 wins after 21 games, the Hornets knocked the Kings out of the top spot after the Penetang squad jumped to first place early in the season and held on with a nine game winning streak to start the season.
The Kings ran into trouble at mid season including a five game losing streak in November that saw them drop to the number two spot in the League.
The Alliston squad started out with a couple of wins to open the season, but then dropped a couple of games, including a September 21, loss to Penetang, before rebounding and are currently on an 11 game winning streak that has launched them to the to the top spot in the GMOHL.
The Stayner Siskins are in third place with a 14-7 record, including two overtime losses, and 30 points.
Rounding out the middle of the pack are the Fergus Devils with a 11-11 record, followed by the Caledon Golden Hawks at 10-12, and the Huntsville Otters with a 10-10 record and 20 points.
The Orillia Terries are still struggling to get on the plus side with a 9-12 record so far.
The Schomberg Cougars are in the number eight spot with 18 points and an 8-14 record.
They are followed by the Erin Shamrocks at 6-14, and the Midland Flyers who are in the basement winning six games after 20 played.
There is still a long way to go in the season.
The Kings reportedly are having problems with injuries this season that have contributed to the team’s current slump. If they get their full line-up back on the ice, they could have a late season rally.
