The 22nd annual Barry Burman Summer Shootout filled local arenas as hundreds of players battled it out in lacrosse games crossing over several divisions from June 24 – 26.
In total, over 700 players, coaches, and bench staff, along with their families and fans arrived in Orangeville for the yearly event, hosted by the Orangeville Northmen Minor Lacrosse Association.
Over the three days, 80 lacrosse games were played at the Alder Street arena and Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre.
There were 35 A / B ranked teams from across the province representing five divisions including U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17 teams.
Lacrosse teams from as far away as Windsor and Ottawa made the trek to Orangeville based on the reputation of the tournament as a well-organized and competitive event.
The continued success of the tournament means there are a lot of returning teams and players who appreciate taking part in it.
In addition to being a successful sporting event, the tournament is a real boost to the local economy as several thousand people pass through Orangeville and spend money on gas, accommodations, and food, among other expenses, while in town.
The tournament is based on a round-robin style of play.
Schedules, game sheets and medal game announcements are available online for fans.
The Northmen had teams in all divisions that represented Orangeville in the annual event.
