Family Transition Place (FTP) will be hosting a luncheon on Wednesday, March 8, International Women's Day, celebrating the challenges and accomplishments of women around the world.
Every year on March 8, women around the world celebrate their economic, social, and political achievements. This year's theme is #BeBoldForChange, which according to the International Women's Day's website, is designed to “Call on the masses or call on yourself to help forge a better working world – a more gender-inclusive world.”
The luncheon, now in its seventh year of celebration, will take place from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. at Best Western PLUS Orangeville Inn & Suites. Tickets are still available for purchase on the website, www.familytransitionplace.ca. Before and after the luncheon there will be a women's vendor marketplace, where people can buy local businesses' products and services.
Stacey Tarrant, Family Transition Place's manager of development and community relations, says all the money from the vendor, ticket sales, and sponsorship “comes right back to Family Transition Place, to support the delivery of our programs and services.”
This year's keynote speaker will be Lindsay Whisen. The FTP website says she “will share her journey from the pit of depression to a much happier place,” and “enlighten us on the challenges, choices and changes that need to happen in today's society for women to succeed.”
Norah Kennedy, FTP executive director, says it's a great way to celebrate women's rights, look at women's rights in history, where they've come and where they need to go, but also to celebrate Family Transition Place and what it does.
“It's one of the days of the year where we like to be able to celebrate some of our accomplishments as well.”
