More than turn lanes needed

November 23, 2016   ·   0 Comments

MUCH AS WE WELCOME a commitment from Ontario’s Transportation minister to meet with Sylvia Jones and Mono’s mayor and officials concerning plans for Highway 10 north of Orangeville, we think the discussion should go far beyond a need for left-turn lanes.

Anyone travelling this dangerous stretch of highway should be well aware of the need to bring it to the same five-lane standard found south of Orangeville.

The sad fact of the matter is that with no rail service north of Orangeville and the current rapid growth of population in Shelburne, that stretch of highway is carrying almost as much traffic as there was south of Orangeville a few years ago.

And it’s too bad that the planned talks don’t include anyone from Shelburne who could let Steven Del Duca know how desperate the need is for a Highway 10 bypass of the town.

Sadly, the road north of Camilla is essentially unimproved since it was paved 90 years ago.
