The Township of Mulmur announced its gratitude for a $10,000 donation from Air Miles for the Township’s third place win in the Air Miles Detour promotion campaign that ran earlier this year.

Mulmur Township was selected as one of only five small communities across Canada to be designated as an “Air Miles Detour” finalist based on their significance to Canadian music history.

Dillon Crosby the Air Miles Tour Manager for Mulmur told media as the contest launched, “Mulmur Township was identified for its historic Rock Hill Park and the rock and country festivals that were held there, as well its beauty and tranquility – allowing today’s artists and musicians to create and connect with themselves.”

Starting back in April, local Air Miles collectors visited the Air Miles site online and registered for Mulmur to win. All their miles during the month of May became an additional vote for Mulmur.

Mulmur’s competition for the honour included: Nelson, British Columbia; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Morin-Heights, Quebec; and Port Hawksbury, Nova Scotia which won first place and a free concert with Grammy Award winner Meghan Trainor. Mulmur also received a signed guitar from Ms. Trainor along with their $10,000.

Mulmur Township Treasurer Heather Boston told the Orangeville Citizen, “The funds will be used by the Canada 150 committee in Mulmur to celebrate – musically.”   The committee for the 2017 celebrations has planned an event every month starting with the Mayor’s levee and public skate in January.

Mulmur Council announced that “local artists and yet to be discovered talent” will be featured throughout the year.  “We have musical workshops, jam sessions, dances, pub night and a musical Christmas scheduled,” she reports. “Our rich musical history and talented residents will help keep Music in the Hills of Mulmur all year round.”
