The Orangeville Jr A Flyers notched a couple of points on the weekend with a win over the Milton Icehawks, but came up short when they returned home for Saturday night’s game against the Aurora Tigers.

Friday’s (Dec. 19) game in Milton ended with a 5-0 shut-out when the Flyers started out with two early goals in the first period from James McLaughlin and Colin Rigney.

Two more in the second period from Thanvir Bandesha and a powerplay effort from Connor Stack gave the O-ville squad a four goal lead with one period left to play.

Chris Maione got the final Flyers goal at the 6:54 mark in the third frame to end the game and give Orangeville goalie Wyatt Pickrell the shut-out.

The return home for their regular Saturday night game was a different story when the first place Aurora Tigers came to town.

The Tigers opened strong notching three goals in the first five minutes of the first period.

That place the Flyers behind the 8-ball in what was otherwise a well played game.

The O-ville team had no trouble playing with the squad from Aurora, they just didn’t find the back of the net.

Another Tigers goal in the second period set Aurora up with a four goal lead.

Orangeville’s James McLaughline got the the only Flyers goal midway in the third period to end the game 6-1.

The Flyers are maintaining a solid second place in the West Division of the OJHL – 12 points ahead of the third place Hamilton Red Wings.

After 36 game, the Flyers have 18 wins, 15 losses, one tie, and two OT losses.

The Flyers will be on the road on December 31, for an afternoon game in Stouffville.

They will be back on home ice at the Alder Street arena on Saturday, January 3, to host the Lindsay Muskies of the North Division.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.
