Team making history at Final Six tournament

 

The Orangeville Northmen Midgets captured the Final Six tournament championship at the Ontario Summer Games held in Windsor on August 7-10.

The squad played through the tournament with a 6-0-1 record, defeating the Burlington Chiefs 9-5 in the final game after going into an overtime period.

To get to the final game, the Northmen won 6-1 over Mimico to earn the right to advance.

The Midget squad is making history with a series of top finishes in the Final six winning three of the last four tournaments and seven over the last 12.

This win is a repeat of last year when the Northmen also won the Final Six.

The Final Six pits the top six teams in the province to do battle for the top spot after a series of qualifiers and league play.

“To qualify, there are 16 teams split into two divisions of eight. The top three seeds from each division move onto the Final Six,” Explained Midget coach DJ Clevely. “It’s a round robin and the top two play in the final.

The squad has a 20 man roster that vied in regular league play as well as tournaments through the season.

The midget team has consistently been a top performer in the sport over the past 20 years competes with some of the top lacrosse centres in the province.
