After two years without hosting an event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the weekly Classic Car Show, Cruisin’ on First, has returned to Orangeville Canadian Tire’s parking lot.

The first event back was held last Wednesday (Sept. 8) and had around 100 participants, showing off their classic cars.

The Cruisin’ on First car show will be held every Wednesday going forward, starting at 6 p.m. and will continue each week up until things cool down, around the end of October.

“Everybody was happy to get back out,” said David Murphy, event organizer.

“I think it’ll just get bigger from here for the next few weeks before the weather gets bad.”

Murphy told the Citizen that those who participate in the car shows were wanting to get back out and since many organizers in other regions have restarted their shows, he thought it was a good time to resume events. Until now, Cruisin’ on First hadn’t held a car show since September of 2019, as the COVID-19 pandemic began in early spring of 2020.

With September being Suicide Awareness Month, Murphy said he’ll be fundraising for the Ontario Mental Health Association at upcoming car shows.

All COVID-19 protocols are being adhered to at the car shows and Murphy said those showing off their cars gave their information for contact tracing in the event someone tested positive.

“Everybody was willing to do what it takes to get back,” said Murphy.

He told the Citizen he’s looking forward to getting back out for the next car show on Sept. 22 and would encourage everyone to attend it.

“Come out and enjoy the classic cars,” he said. “It’s just good being around people again, safely.”
