Loss to Peterborough on Sunday

After 15 games, the Orangeville Junior A Northmen are right in the middle of the pack in the OJALL standings with an 8-7 record and 16 points.

They are in sixth place in the 11 team league with five games left on the regular season schedule.

The Northmen came up short in their last two games losing 12-7 to the Brampton Excelsiors on Friday, June 27, on the road, then taking a 12-9 loss to Peterborough during their Sunday (June 29) evening game at the Alder Street arena in Orangeville.

The losses dropped them down in the standings behind Peterborough and Kitchener-Waterloo who both have 18 points for the season.

Sunday’s game against Peterborough turned against the Northmen in the second period when the Lakers managed to score six unanswered goals to take a 10-5 lead going into the final period.

The squads played to a 4-4 tie at the end of the first period.

Battling back in the third period, the Northmen turned their game up a notch scoring four goals to challenge, including short-handed goals from Ian Mackay and Lucas Ducharme.

With 1:30 remaining, the Northmen bench put six attackers on the floor and scored another one from Brendan Welsh, but they couldn’t turn it around enough to get back in the game and they had to settle for a 12-9 loss to the visitors.

The squad from Six Nations is currently in the lead in the League standings suffering only one loss this season after 16 games.

They are followed by Brampton with a 13-4 record and Whitby who currently has 20 points and 13 wins for the season.

The Northmen have two road games against Kitchener-Waterloo and the Barrie Lakeshores.

They will return home on Friday, June 11, to host Kitchener-Waterloo at the Alder Street arena.

Game time is 8:00 p.m.
