Drive-in concerts bring live music back to Orangeville

If you’re tired of seeing live music only on your television or computer screen, the Orangeville Drive-in Concert Series will give you a fun night out under the stars, with some top performers coming to town.

The Concert Series was organized by the Town and features six shows on stage at Rotary Park.

Town Council managed to put this event together in a very short period of time when it was decided that local residents really needed to get out and have some fun before the summer comes to an end.

After the provincial government approved drive-in events, including concerts, earlier this month, Orangeville Council endorsed an exciting line-up on stage for the end of August.

This isn’t your average concert in the park. There is a professional stage and large stage-side TV monitors that allow you to get a close-up look at what’s going on. The concert is also broadcast live on FM transmission so you can tune in on your car radio.

“After a summer of following Public Health’s social distancing protocols, residents are ready for, and deserve some great entertainment,” said Orangeville Mayor, Sandy Brown. “Orangevlle Council is excited to be able to offer this concert series with the collaborative help of our community partners, Theatre Orangeville and Community Living Dufferin. The generosity of our presenting sponsor, E. Hofmann Plastics, along with other local business sponsors demonstrates the great sens of community in this town.”

There are safety protocols for anyone attending the concerts. You must remain in your car. No tailgate type of arrangements are allowed. Washrooms and a concession stand are available.

You must park your car in the designated spots, which are spaced a car width apart.

You can however, substitute your car horn for applause, which really adds a special touch to the event.

Popular local band, Campfire Poets, kicked off the series on Friday (Aug. 21) night.

Entertainer, Leisa Way, performed on Saturday night, bringing her Dolly Parton tribute show to the stage.

Ty Bynton, performed on Sunday afternoon. The series continued this week with Leisa Way returning on Wednesday, August 26, with her Rock the Night Away with Leisa Way & the Wayward Wind Band.

Tonight (Thursday, Aug. 27) the series will cotninue with The Itchy & Scratchy Show, with Erin Bolton, beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The Campfire Poets will end the series, performing on Friday night at 8:00 p.m.
